Rheintal IX celebrates its tenth anniversary today, Wednesday! With the registration of the association in the Liechtenstein register of associations, the foundation stone for the operation of today’s internet hub Rheintal IX was laid on October 27, 2011. According to the statutes, the association has set itself the goal of building and operating a non-commercial Internet node, improving and maintaining Internet data traffic and creating an open Internet community in the Rhine Valley region.
As a cross-border joint project, the Rheintal IX could be successively expanded in the past years, further locations could be opened up and new participants could be connected. Especially in the course of the (still continuing) Covid pandemic and the resulting necessity for home office/teleworking in many local companies, the Rheintal IX could successfully prove the necessity for a regional peering infrastructure, its advantages as well as its operational stability.
With the recent commissioning of the new site in Constance, another major milestone in the history of the association could also be reached. Since then, the Rheintal IX is represented in all four countries bordering the Rhine Valley and Lake Constance region (Liechtenstein, Austria, Switzerland and Germany) with one location/PoP each. A big thank you is due at this point to all our honorary members, participants, supporters and sponsors, without whom we would never have been able to achieve this great goal!
We are already looking forward to the next ten years as well as further exciting milestones, first and foremost the planned ring road around Lake Constance!
